Climate change management and early warning systems: water resources and food supply chain impacts

The online technical workshop aims to advance SDGs 13 (Climate Action), 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), and 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) by bringing together experts, policymakers, and stakeholders from Vietnam, Italy, and beyond to address climate change, water management, and food security. Climate change intensifies extreme events like floods, droughts, and storms, straining natural resources and food supply chains.
This workshop, part of the 2025 Sustainable development festival, will focus on integrating Early Warning Systems (EWS) and Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) to enhance resilience.The event will feature three key sessions:
- Early Warning Systems (EWS): experts from Italy and Vietnam will highlight how these systems help mitigate climate risks, supporting SDG 13.
- Impact on water resources and food supply: exploring how climate change affects water and agriculture, this session will also discuss nature-based solutions (Nbs) as sustainable solutions, contributing to SDGs 6 and 13.
- Climate risk management at the Basin Scale: case studies from the Mekong and an Italian River Basins will emphasize regional cooperation, supporting SDG 17.
Policymakers, experts, academics, international organizations, Non-governmental organizations, and private sector actors focused on climate change, food security, water resources, sustainable agriculture and disaster management will be involved in the workshop. The goal is to foster collaboration between Italy and Vietnam to develop solutions for climate risks and sustainable development.

Aics Hanoi, in collaboration with the Italian Embassy in Hanoi, proposes this online technical workshop creating a platform for discussion to explore how to address the challenges of climate change, extreme events, and risks associated with water resources and the food supply chain and to strengthen collaboration between Italy and Vietnam on these issues. The integration of Early Warning System and Natural Based Solutions will contribute to promoting greater resilience to challenges related to food production, processing, marketing, and export, in line with the SDGs and global priorities for sustainable development, and in accordance with the programming of the Aics Hanoi office.
